Atelier Rebul Heritage Store

Rebul's shop, museum and pharmacy in one, inside the restored parcel post office at Galataport. Old bottles, papers and photos from the 1895 pharmacy line the walls. Smell Rebul Lavanda, the house cologne, and ask staff about made-to-order cosmetics.

Nishane Istanbul boutique

Grand Bazaar

Around 4,000 shops under one roof, including stalls selling kolonya, perfume oils and essential oils. Good for cheap souvenirs if you haggle and smell before you buy. Many oils here are imported, so ask for Turkish-made kolonya if you want something local.

No single perfume stall was checked, so none is named. The claim that stalls sell kolonya and perfume oils comes from travel guides, not an official source.

Free museums

Parfumane perfume gallery, Grand Bazaar

A perfume gallery and shop in the Sandal Bedesten, one of the Grand Bazaar's old stone halls. It shows collector Bekir Kantarcı's old perfume bottles, stills and raw materials such as oud, amber and musk, and sells Parfumane's own oils and colognes.

Houses made in Istanbul

A half-day perfume route

Galataport, Karaköy and Galata sit next to each other on the north side of the Golden Horn, so the first three stops are a short walk apart.

  1. Atelier Rebul Heritage Store at Galataport. See the old pharmacy bottles and smell Rebul Lavanda, the house cologne.
  2. Eyüp Sabri Tuncer on Mumhane Caddesi, Karaköy. The cologne house’s first Istanbul shop. Check it is still open before you go.
  3. Perfume workshop in Galata. Book a morning or afternoon slot and blend your own 50 ml bottle.
  4. Optional: cross the Galata Bridge to the Grand Bazaar and visit Parfumane’s perfume gallery. Skip this on Sundays, when the Grand Bazaar is closed.

Practical tips

  • Kolonya is the cheapest, most local souvenir. Lemon is the classic scent. It is mostly alcohol, so close the cap tightly and pack it in a bag.
  • In hand luggage, each liquid must be 100 ml or less. Put bigger bottles of kolonya or perfume in your checked bag.
  • Haggling is normal in the Grand Bazaar. Start below the first price and keep it friendly.
  • Test perfume oils before you buy. Quality varies a lot in tourist stalls, and many oils are imported rather than made locally.
  • The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays. The Spice Bazaar opens every day but sells mostly food and spices.
